Register for the Ohio Safety Congress and Expo

Attending the 2016 Ohio Safety Congress and Expo March 9-11? Make sure you stop by and visit your Account Executives in booth #223!

This year's Safety Congress, "Road to Workplace Safety", will offer more than 200 educational sessions, 225 exhibitors and continuing education credits. The Congress will offer sessions on safety, workers' compensation and health issues and is free of charge to employers.

New this year, the Ohio Workers' Compensation Medical and Health Symposium will offer health-care providers clinical practice guidelines for pain and neuromusculoskeletal management.

Interested employers should register on the Ohio BWC website.

New resources for Spanish speaking Ohioans

The Ohio BWC has added a new resource for Spanish speaking employers and injured workers. Customers seeking assistance can now reach Spanish speaking staff daily from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm by calling 1-800-644-6292.

The BWC has also made a Spanish language web page available with additional information and forms needed to report and manage workers' compensation claim: To access the Spanish language page, click here.

Start the process for the transitional work bonus program now

Employers who wish to apply for the Transitional Work Bonus program beginning July 1, 2016, should begin the application process in the next few weeks. The application includes submission of a written transitional work program, including job analysis and a medical provider network and developing a program may take some time. Employers may, however, qualify for the assistance of a certified Ohio BWC developer and may be eligible for a grant to help defray the costs. The grant covers 75% of the costs of the program development.

Employers who already have a written program either completed internally or through participation in the BWC grant program should ensure that all requirements of submission are met prior to submission.

New Coverage Options for Ohio Business Owners

The Ohio BWC approved a new coverage option for businesses with employees who work in other states. The new policy offering brings much needed clarity and makes it easier for employers to expand outside of Ohio while ensuring employees are protected.

The new coverage option allows the BWC the authority to contract with an insurer licensed in states other than Ohio, ensuring workers' compensation coverage regardless of jurisdiction.

To be eligible, the business must have the majority of their business in Ohio and should apply directly to the BWC. The BWC will determine eligibility and the premium cost for the optional coverage.
